Chief Minister’s Message

The SKYCITY Triple Crown V8 Supercars will this year be Event 6 of the 2012 Championship.  The Event has come a long way since the first race at Hidden Valley back in 1998.

Going by attendance figures alone, it is the biggest event on the Territory’s sporting calendar. The race attracts up to 40 000 spectators and injects $8 million into the local economy each year. Not surprisingly, the event has become a major contributor to the Territory’s economy. It is one of our most exciting and important major events – loved by Territorians and visitors alike.

In 2008, the race was voted by motor enthusiasts as the best V8 round in Australia – a true testament to its success.  This year we are proudly celebrating the Territory's 15th hosting and the race isn’t going anywhere soon, with the government signing a long-term agreement with V8 Supercars Australia to secure the Darwin V8 Supercar round until 2018.
