Chief Minister's Message

Chief MinisterThirteen may be unlucky for some but for the Northern Territory, it’s a magic number, as we host the V8 Supercars in Darwin for the 13th consecutive year.

Australians have voted the V8 round at Hidden Valley, the best in the nation.

That confidence has been echoed by V8 Supercars Australia, which has partnered with the Northern Territory Government to host a round for the next 10 years.

In continuing the partnership between the Northern Territory Government and V8 Supercars Australia, Executive Chairman Tony Cochrane stated:

“It’s no secret that Darwin and the SKYCITY Triple Crown is a favourite amongst our drivers, teams and our staff. Year after year we can’t wait to get back to that special feeling of the Top End and this particular weekend.”

That special feeling is shared not only by Territorians but the thousands of visitors who witness the action trackside every year.

The V8 round in Darwin is one of our most exciting and important major events – injecting more than $8 million into the local economy and attracting average crowds of 40,000 people.

It’s not just a weekend for motor sports enthusiasts to enjoy the roar of the engines, the colour and the glamour.  It’s also a chance to showcase Territory business, our attractions and great lifestyle.

I look forward to another successful high octane event in 2010.
