Our Story

From humble beginnings in the centre of Australia, the Dolly Pot Inn restaurant and Squash Centre was established back in the 1980’s by founder Karen Sheldon. Then the hub of Tennant Creek and winning several Brolga Awards for “Best Restaurant”, Karen decided to establish a sister restaurant in Darwin also called the “Dolly Pot Inn”. Airline catering was added to the mix and then the move was made to the AFL stadium (now called TIO Stadium) in Marrara to be closer to the airport.

In 1993 Karen took on business to further develop, these are: Julie Calvert – Head Chef, Amanda Swift – Functions Manager and Sarah Hickey – Business Development Manager. The Karen’s Kitchen Cafes were then established– now located at Bunnings Warehouse and Parliament House, Darwin. The partnership has built a strong and recognisable brand, delivering personalised service and fresh wholesome food bursting with flavour. The business has recently established a training division, delivering accredited training in Hospitality and Cookery investing in the local workforce and building on it’s skills base.
